Hansa Green Tour organizes the Iceland Green Tour from January 13 - 16, 2019, a network trip for sustainability professionals who want to learn from geothermal initiatives in Iceland and share knowledge with each other. Geothermal energy is the most important source of sustainable energy in Iceland and can also play an important role in making our energy mix more sustainable in the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, the use of geothermal energy is still in its infancy. What can we learn from successful geothermal projects in Iceland? To that end, we visit the Geothermal Energy Exhibition and the Hellisheidi Power Plant, one of the largest geothermal power plants in the world for Reykjavik's district heating network. Here we also look at the CarbFix project, where experiments are being done to extract CO2 from the outside air, mineralize it and then store it as rock in the soil. A promising technique for removing CO2 from the atmosphere and combating climate change.
