Iceland Green Tour

ATTENTION: PROGRAM AND DATE CHANGES –> 13 – 16th January 2019

Hansa Green Tour organizes the Iceland Green Tour from 13 – 16th January 2019. An international networking tour for sustainability professionals that want to learn from geothermal initiatives at Iceland. Geothermal energy in Iceland is the most important sustainable source of energy. In other countries around the world geothermal energy could also play an important role in the energy transition towards more sustainable energy. What can we learn from Iceland?

To find out we will visit the Geothermal Energy Exhibition at the Hellisheidi Power Plant, one of the largest geothermal power plants that powers the largest district heating network in the world: Reykjavik. Here we will also take a look at the CarbFix project where Iceland is experimenting with capturing CO2 out of the air and turn it into rock, forever. A promising technology that could take CO2 out of the air and help to fight climate change if the technology could be called-up quick enough.

Geothermal Energy Exhibition

Iceland Energy – Hellisheidi Geothermal Power Plant

Iceland Energy is the energy utility company that provides Reykjavik with heat and electricty with the largest geothermal district heating network in the world. The Hellisheidi Power Plant is one of the largest geothermal power plants in the world where volcanic energy is transformed into electricity and heat for city use. Here they also experiment with capturing CO2 out of the air and turn into rock, forever. A promising technology to reduce CO2 emission and help fight climate change. Hveragerdi Geothermal Park – Hot Springs Capital of the World

Iceland is the country of geisers, volcanos and rough nature. In the Hveragerdi Geothermal Park we will have a guided tour and see the locals using geothermal energy for heating their homes, pool, as well as for outdoor cooking…

Blue Lagoon – Largest commercial geothermal spa in the world

The Blue Lagoon is the largest geothermal spa in the world. Here geothermal energy is succesfully used as sustainable energy source to power a commercial wellness resort in a very rough climate. The Blue Lagoon is one of the most important attractions of Iceland and is open all-year. In winter time it offers an amazing view on the northern light (Aurora Borealis). Here we will have a look at the geothermal technology behind the Blue Lagoon and we will close the program with a dive into this beautiful spa.
